    2. Working Principle

    Vee Packing is a typical self-energizing combined seal, composed of a male backup adapter, multiple V-shaped sealing rings and a female pressure adapter.

    During equipment operation, the initial pre-tightening force provided by the upper and lower adapters makes the V-shaped rings closely fit the piston rod and cylinder wall to form basic static sealing. When the hydraulic or pneumatic medium generates working pressure, the pressure acts on the inner cavity of each V-shaped ring, pushing the sealing lips to expand outward and cling to the friction surface tightly. The higher the system pressure, the greater the radial sealing force.

    In addition, the stacked multi-ring structure forms a multi-stage pressure reduction barrier. The medium pressure is gradually consumed and reduced through each sealing ring, which effectively blocks the leakage channel and finally achieves near-zero dynamic leakage. This unique working principle enables Vee Packing to maintain stable and reliable sealing performance under long-term high-pressure reciprocating motion.

    Q1: What is the difference between Vee Packing and ordinary O-rings?

    A1: Vee Packing is a modular multi-stage high-pressure seal, while O-rings are single-function basic seals. Vee Packing can withstand up to 700bar ultra-high pressure (much higher than 200bar limit of O-rings), with adjustable tightness and longer service life. It is specially used for heavy-duty high-pressure scenarios where O-rings are easy to deform and leak.

    Q2: How to choose the number of V-shaped rings?

    A2: The number of V-rings depends on working pressure: 3 pieces for pressure below 100bar, 4-5 pieces for 100-400bar, and 5-7 pieces for pressure above 400bar. We can provide targeted matching solutions according to your working conditions.
