Structure Features
- Single lip, no garter spring. Sealing relies on the elastic force of the rubber lip to contact the shaft surface.
- Rubber covered outer diameter with ribbed / corrugated surface. Suitable for aluminum housings with large thermal expansion. The corrugated outer OD compensates housing thermal expansion to maintain static sealing at outer circle.
- Built-in metal skeleton to keep roundness and stable installation dimension.
Common Materials
- NBR (standard, mostly green, 70~90 Shore A): mineral oil, grease. Temperature range: -30 ~ +120°C
- FKM / Viton: high temperature & chemical resistance. Temperature range: -20 ~ +200°C
- Optional: HNBR, ACM, EPDM, VMQ (Silicone)
Operating Parameters (Standard VG)
- Pressure: ≤0.3 bar (zero pressure / low pressure for oil bath & grease only). Not for high pressure service.
- Surface speed: ≤5~10 m/s (depends on material)
- Compatible media: engine oil, gear oil, grease, some synthetic lubricants. Not suitable for strong solvents, concentrated acid & alkali.
Applications
- Low pressure lubrication system, grease sealing
- Aluminum housing motors, reducers, small gearboxes. Corrugated OD compensates thermal expansion of aluminum housing.
- Secondary sealing position, limited installation space for rotary shaft; oil retention + light dust exclusion
- Brands: SOG, NAK, DIC supply VG / VG1 series. VB, VC are sibling springless seal types.
Advantages & Disadvantages
- No spring, lower friction & less heat generation
- Corrugated outer diameter prevents outer leakage when aluminum housing expands under temperature change
- Compact structure, lower cost than TC spring oil seal
- Lip preload is weaker than TC spring-loaded seal. Not recommended for high pressure, heavy dust or high speed severe conditions.
- Poor compensation after lip wear; shorter service life under harsh working conditions vs TC seal.

Selection Tips
- Part marking: ID × OD × Thickness, example: VG 12×21×3
- VG is preferred for aluminum housing with large temperature variation. TC/SC for heavy dust, high shaft speed or higher pressure.
- Designed for rotary dynamic sealing only, NOT for reciprocating hydraulic sealing.
