The VP Series V-Packing Set (also known as a Chevron packing set or V-ring set) is a multi-part sealing solution designed for heavy-duty rod and piston sealing applications. The set is composed of a pressure ring, one or more V-shaped sealing rings, and a support ring. This configuration creates a robust, adaptable seal that performs exceptionally well under high pressure and in challenging operating conditions. Working Principle
The V-Packing Set operates on a pressure-energized sealing principle. When installed in a gland or housing, the pressure ring transmits the axial load to the V-rings. As system pressure increases, the fluid forces the lips of the V-shaped rings outward against the rod/cylinder wall and inward against the housing, creating a progressively tighter seal. The support ring provides axial backup and ensures the set remains properly aligned. This design allows the seal to function effectively even with fluctuating pressures and on surfaces that are not perfectly smooth.
