Advantages and disadvantages of styrene butadiene rubber

Styrene-butadiene rubber is an unsaturated hydrocarbon polymer. Physical and chemical reactions will occur under the action of light, heat, oxygen and ozone, but its oxidation is slower than that of natural rubber, and the aging reaction speed is slower even at higher temperatures. The aging effect of light on rubber is not obvious, but the ozone resistance is worse than that of natural rubber. The brittleness temperature is about minus 45, and the low temperature performance is slightly worse.

Compared with general general rubber has the following advantages and disadvantages:

1. Advantages

(1) The rubber material is not easy to scorch and over-sulfur, and the vulcanization flatness is good.

(2) Wear resistance, heat resistance, oil resistance and aging resistance are better than natural rubber. High temperature wear resistance, suitable for passenger tires.

(3) The molecular weight is no longer reduced after the processing to a certain extent, so it is not easy to be refined, and the plasticization is uniform. The hardness of vulcanized rubber changes little.

(4) High filling can be achieved by increasing molecular weight. Oil-filled styrene butadiene rubber has good processing properties.

(5) It is easy to use with other unsaturated general rubber, especially with natural rubber and butadiene rubber, and the shortcomings of styrene butadiene rubber can be overcome by formula adjustment.

2. Disadvantages

(1) Pure rubber strength is low, need to add high-activity reinforcing agent can be used. The difficulty of adding the compound is greater than that of natural rubber, and the dispersion of the compound in rubber is poor.

(2) There are many trans-structures, irregular structures, and benzene rings on the side base, so the hysteresis loss is larger than that of natural rubber, high heat generation, low elasticity, and slightly poor cold resistance. However, after filling with oil, heat generation can be reduced.

(3) Unvulcanized rubber has large shrinkage, low strength, and poor adhesion as natural rubber.

(4) The vulcanization rate is slower than that of natural glue.

(5) The flexural cracking resistance of vulcanized rubber is better than that of natural rubber, but the crack growth rate is fast. Poor thermal tearing performance.
