1. Product Introduction
D-Ring seal (D-type rubber seal) is a professional upgraded sealing part optimized from traditional O-rings, with a distinctive D-shaped cross-section consisting of one flat plane and one circular arc surface. The flat side fits tightly with the groove bottom for accurate positioning and anti-rolling function, while the arc side acts as the sealing lip to contact the mating part and achieve reliable sealing performance.
This D-ring can be directly installed in standard ISO3601 O-ring grooves without groove modification or retooling, realizing 1:1 replacement of ordinary O-rings. It fundamentally solves the common failure problems of O-rings such as rolling, twisting and spiral cracking in dynamic reciprocating working conditions, greatly improving sealing stability and service life. It is widely used for static sealing and low-speed reciprocating & rotary sealing in hydraulic and pneumatic systems.
2. D-Ring VS O-Ring Core Advantages
-
Anti-twist & Anti-rolling: The flat positioning structure avoids spiral deformation and torsion damage during dynamic operation, which is the biggest defect of standard O-rings.
-
Better High-pressure Performance: More stable compression state, not easy to extrude or deform under medium and high pressure.
-
Stable Dynamic Friction: Controlled contact area reduces friction fluctuation, improving the smoothness of cylinder reciprocating movement.
-
100% Groove Compatibility: Fully applicable to standard O-ring grooves, no extra processing cost.
3. Working Principle & Design Standard
D-Ring seals follow the international ISO3601 O-ring groove standard, which means all standard size D-rings can perfectly match existing O-ring installation grooves.
Recommended Compression Rate
High-pressure Reinforcement: When the working pressure exceeds 16MPa, it is recommended to use with a PTFE backup ring to prevent seal extrusion and damage. The maximum withstand pressure can reach 35MPa with backup ring.
Groove Requirement: The groove filling rate is controlled within 97% to reserve deformation space for rubber compression; sharp edges must be rounded with R0.1~R0.2 to avoid cutting the seal.
4. Application Scope
Applicable Scenarios
-
Hydraulic cylinder piston and rod reciprocating sealing
-
Pneumatic cylinder and pneumatic valve static & dynamic sealing
-
Low-speed rotary joints and pipeline valve sealing
-
Engineering machinery, compressors, hydraulic systems and automation equipment
Inapplicable Scenarios
Not suitable for high-speed rotating working conditions (linear speed higher than 2~3m/s). For high-speed rotation, professional rotary shaft oil seals are recommended.
5. Common Failure Modes & Solutions
-
Torsion & Spiral Damage: Caused by improper assembly or excessive groove clearance. D-ring flat structure greatly reduces this risk compared with O-rings.
-
Extrusion Damage: Occurs under high pressure without PTFE backup ring. Solution: Equip with matching backup ring for high-pressure working conditions.
-
Compression Permanent Deformation: Caused by over-temperature environment or unqualified rubber material. Select high-temperature resistant FKM/HNBR material for harsh working conditions.
-
Medium Swelling & Aging: Caused by material and medium mismatch. Confirm working medium before selection to avoid improper material application.
